We arrive at college having left most, if not all, of our high school friends behind, forcing us to begin the process of finding new friends. Joining a fraternity can ease this transition by enhancing the opportunity for those friendships to develop and grow. Membership in a Sigma Chi is not based on the possession of a particular athletic or academic skill. It is based on friendship. Friendships promote the sharing of new ideas and concepts, and are thus an important aspect of the college experience.
The primary purpose of Sigma Chi is to promote friendship, justice, and learning. While friends can have a profound impact on your experience in college, Sigma Chi aspires to develop brotherhood - a deeper and more enduring type of friendship - among its members.
Brotherhood brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds to assist each other in the attainment of high minded goals, develops a life-long commitment and creates friendships that will stand the post-graduation tests of time and distance.
Sigma Chi has leaders embedded in every area of Student Life at the University of Arizona, including 2 Senators and the treasurer of the Associated Students of the University of Arizona-ASUA (Student Government), members of Bobcats (Senior Honorary), Chain Gang and CHIMES (Junior Honoraries), SOPHOS and SMORES (Sophomore Honoraries), FCC (Freshman Class Council), The Honors College, Blue Chip Leadership Club, Air Force ROTC, Arizona Ambassadors, Order of Omega (Greek Honorary Society), ICECATS, the rugby team and many other organizations all hail brothers of Sigma Chi, truly representing men of different temperaments, talents and convictions. Maintaining the 3rd highest G.P.A. on campus and having just received the Dean of Students Award for Excellence, current brothers continue to contribute to Beta Phi’s outstanding history and rich tradition.
Sigma Chi believes that we should always build up our brothers-to-be; therefore we have a zero tolerance policy on hazing. Hazing accomplishes nothing and is contradictory to the values and ideals of Sigma Chi. When you are a pledge of the Beta Phi chapter, you have already met our standard of recruitment. The purpose of our eight week pledge program is to prepare you for becoming a Sigma Chi and we aspire to teach and prepare our brothers-to-be to become our Sigma Chi brothers. Our organization is based on values and goals, and we believe in educating young men on the principles of leadership, integrity, courage, self-reliance and personal accountability. This period will serve to educate our brothers-to-be on our ideals and beliefs, and to ensure that they are adequately prepared and informed on what will be expected of them as a high-minded man and a gentleman during their lifelong journey of being a Sigma Chi.
Sigma Chi offers men the chance of a lifetime...to become a man of good character devoted to the betterment of campus and the community. Sigma Chi offers students an unparalleled opportunity to excel as values-leaders at University of Arizona. Sigma Chi's vision is to become the preeminent collegiate leadership development organization—aligned, focused and living our core values.
