Bob Svob- Beta Phi ’42, holding the Robert Svob Award with members of the chapter (5/2/10)
The Beta Phi Chapter of Sigma Chi has been awarded the prestigious Dean Robert Svob Award for Excellence, the highest award bestowed upon any fraternity or sorority on the UA campus.
The honors came during the 28th Annual Greek Awards on April 25. The event was staged by the Order of Omega, an honorary for Greek men and women of junior or senior standing with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who exemplify high standards in the areas of scholarship, leadership, and involvement. Matt Ryan currently serves as the honorary’s treasurer.
The award is named after Robert Svob, a Sigma Chi at the University of Arizona who graduated in 1942. Svob served the university for almost 40 years, retiring in 1983 as dean of students.
The chapter also was recognized for having the highest chapter grade point average among all fraternities as well other areas of excellence such as excellence in new member program, recruitment, health and wellness, and chapter management.
Overall, it was a successful showing, surely a testament to our chapter and the strong leadership that anchors it. We should all reflect positively about these awards, be proud and look to the bright future ahead for this Sigma Chi chapter.
