For the 22nd time, The Beta Phi Chapter has received the J. Dwight Peterson Significant Chapter Award and for the 13th time the Legion of Honor Scholarship Award in competition with Sigma Chi’s 236 chapters.
Beta Phi had the 14th highest score of the 38 chapters receiving the Peterson Award and was one of four chapters that received the Legion of Honor Award.
The Peterson Award recognizes strong performance in all areas of chapter operations and is the highest honor bestowed upon an undergraduate chapter. Award criteria include scholarship, financial stability, new member retention, campus activities and leadership, campus and community service, chapter development, faculty and alumni relations, publications, active and new member programs.
The Legion of Honor award honors chapters having commendable educational programs. Each program must encourage and create positive scholastic attitudes and enhance the individual brother’s desire to reach his fullest potential during the course of his college career. The award was established to motivate chapters to establish scholarship programs that benefit each brother within the chapter.
The awards were given out at closing ceremonies of the 2010 Balfour Leadership Training Workshop held July 28-31 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The Beta Phi Chapter sent 17 undergrads and alumni to the event, a Beta Phi record. Undergraduate chapter members attending the leadership workshop were John Komadina, Ben Eastman, Michael Colletti, Jamie Ensell, James Dillard, Rylan Fauset, Robbie King, Todd Torabi, Joe Catallini, Dan Wallace, Jordan Hongo and Jon Eastman. Also Dane Denby and recent graduate Matt Chomiak served on headquarters staff assignments. Alums Bill Scott, Southwestern Province grand praetor, Steve Schuyler, Sigma Chi Board of Grand Trustees and Tucson Alumni Chapter president, and Chuck Colton, vice president of the Sigma Chi Building Company also attended.
A record of more than 1,855 Sigma Chi undergrads and alumni attended the event. The workshop is the largest conference of any greek letter fraternity. Its mission is to teach advanced leadership skills and foster brotherhood to its attendees.
Congratulations to our chapter on this achievement and to our undergrad and alumni brothers for their commitment to advancing our chapter.
