Dr. Paul Portney, dean of the Eller College of Management, shared a few words with the men of Beta Phi on Oct. 5 in an exclusive event held at the house.
Portney provided an insider’s perspective on the operations and strategy within the school. Perhaps even more valuable, was Portney’s insight and guidance in how to make the most of one’s experience as a student within the program.
His words took hold especially for students applying to the Eller College this semester, and younger, prospective students who should heed his advice if they wish to realize their goals of gaining admittance into the Eller College, ranked 23rd in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.
The college has one of the most rigorous requirements and competitive selections process at the University of Arizona, and students in Eller are some of the most motivated and academically talented students in the university.
“You can look forward to a well coordinated and innovative academic program, where you will be graduating from one of the top business schools in the nation,” Portney said.
Nearly 35 men attended, including distinguished lecturer in business ethics, alumni and faculty adviser Dr. Paul Melendez, and Beta Phi alums Jon Underwood, and Terry Valeski.
Portney’s talk was in conjunction with the newly established mentorship program Valeski. The program, which has more than 40 participants, matches Beta Phi alumni with undergraduates in an effort to foster relationships that will guide and jumpstart them into a successful career.
