New House Campaign

Grand Chapter

Three Beta Phi Sigs stood out at the national fraternity’s 78th Grand Chapter, entitled Standing Tall in Texas, held in Dallas from June 23-25.

Brother Bill Scott, ’80, was the recipient of the Edwin C. Fisher Best Grand Praetor Award.  He was received a beautiful Sigma Chi ring. In addition, Scott was re-elected as Grand Praetor of the newly formed Grand Canyon Province and was re-elected as Dean of the Praetorial College, which makes him the chairman of all the grand praetors in the international fraternity.

Dr. Donald Buckley,  ’78, was inducted as a Significant Sig and will join the other Beta Phi Significant Sigs in the long and illustrious history of the Beta Phi Chapter.

Brother Steve Schuyler, ’79, was elected as vice chairman of the Board of Grand Trustees.

Several new officers were elected to represent the international fraternity for the next two years. They include Dennis Santoli as Grand Consul, Michael Greenberg, Grand Pro-Consul, and Tommy Geddings, Grand Quaestor along with re-election of Grand Tribune Skip Flynn and Grand Historian Bill Flemming.

The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi song is celebrating its 100th anniversary and was fitting for the selection of the 2011-2013 Sweetheart of Sigma Chi, Sydney Binnington, a senior at the University of West Ontario, Canada.  We are an international fraternity and now our lovely Sweetheart is international too.

During the two years since the last Grand Chapter of Sigma Chi, the fraternity has enjoyed rapid growth and now has 240 chapters, making it the largest fraternity in the greek world in both undergraduate and alumni chapters. The fraternity initiated its 300,000th member last month.  Outgoing Grand Consul L. Wayne Tucker outlined the tremendous progress the fraternity is making in undergraduate leadership programs.  The future of our beloved fraternity is bright.

Our fraternity leadership will meet from July 28-31 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for the Balfour Leadership Workshop. Ten Beta Phi undergrads and alumni will be attending as students and faculty.
