Homecoming 2008 events were a rousing success as literally dozens of Sigma Chi Brothers, spouses, girlfriends and children helped make our events successful. The reunion of the 60s Brothers was very well attended and a list of attendees is listed on this website. Westward Look Resort put on a fine venue for hosting of our reunion weekend.
The Beta Phi Hall of Honor was held at the Westward Look Resort on Friday and had a standing room only attendance as attendees were literally standing outside the door. Thank you to Brothers Rick Fried ‘63, Mike Hennigan ’65 and Ted Brookhart ’63 for traveling to Tucson to be inducted into the 2008 Class of the Beta Phi Hall of Honor. Thank you to Peggy Jo Wilson and Carolyn Humphrey for traveling to accept the award on behalf of Chapter Eternal Brothers Marshall Humphrey ’51 and Bob Wilson ’58. Thank you for your kind words of your departed husband’s love for Sigma Chi and their Sigma Chi Brothers. The attendees heard introductions on behalf of the inductees; both humorous and embarrassing stories. Paul Muscenti’s introduction of Bob Wilson ’58 was especially touching.
The dinner banquet held afterwards saw many brothers connecting for the first time since graduation. A video presentation put together by Brother Dick Bohnet ’63 of old photos of Brothers, chapter housing, chapter parties, etc. was running throughout the event. Kudos to Brother Bohnet for all of his hard work in assembling this presentation. Afterwards, all the Brothers assembled in the front of the room and sang “The Sweetheart of Sigma Chi” to their sweethearts in the audience and then presented them with a white rose. After an update on the housing campaign by Lisle Payne and Jon Underwood, the sounds of the Righteous Brothers filled the room and dancing became the order of business for the evening.
Saturday saw the usual tents on the mall in the Greek section. Many Brothers stopped by and said hello with their families. The undergraduates were paired with ADPi Sorority and we all cheered as they went by in the U of A Homecoming Parade.
Thank you to so many for taking time out of your schedule to come and see your Brothers. Brotherhood is alive and well at Beta Phi. The affection shown between Brothers is an evidence of the rich legacy of our Chapter – all honor to the brothers of Sigma Chi Fraternity and the Beta Phi Chapter!
