The times in which we live provide young men in college with many options, distractions and temptations, amplified by the media and by peer group relationships. The growth of single-parent homes, the increasing financial burden on young people, and the influence of a coarse popular culture has created a need for special institutions–those dedicated to brotherhood and the principles of Friendship, Justice, and Learning. Such institutions identify and instill the characteristics of leadership in young men at the moment of their formative development.
Sigma Chi is naturally the organization to lead the way and has created a challenging leadership program, specifically designed for initiated sophomores who want to improve themselves and their world. Working with professionals who have fashioned leadership programs for Fortune 500 companies including HONDA, Sigma Chi created the Horizons Program.
As a participant in Horizons, a select group of young men explore the inner territories of leadership…
- How leadership is directly linked to values and character.
- How they can incorporate high-minded values into a lifelong practice of leadership.
- How they can discover and utilize their full potential.
Horizons participants are guided by a team of carefully selected and intensely trained alumni facilitators, each of which share a commitment to the values of Sigma Chi and self-improvement.
Horizons pushes our Fraternity’s brightest to think and act differently. But the experience is just a first step; the beginning of a journey that will change these young men–and in so doing–will change our world.
BALFOUR LEADERSHIP TRAINING WORKSHOP
The Balfour Leadership Training Workshop, established in 1947, is a program designed to improve the quality of leadership in the Fraternity. Each August, leaders from Sigma Chi’s undergraduate chapters spend four days on a college campus, deeply immersed in presentations, discussions, and problem solving sessions about chapter operations and other issues that affect a chapter’s viability.
